Which Lightweight
cheap double stroller Pushchair Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around in a light double pushchair, especially if you have kids of varying ages. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down the stairs.
This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom and reclining that can be adjusted. It also has massive UPF 50+ canopy with peekaboo windows. It also has a frame that expands in the width to accommodate the second car seat or another passenger.
Side-by-Side
The majority of the lightweight double pushchairs we tested are side-by-side models and are generally recommended for children that can sit up unassisted since these models tend to lack car seat integration. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent options. They have adjustable recline for both seats, a large canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They're also easy to maneuver despite their bigger footprint, and are ideal for parents worried about fitting through doorways.
The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because of its clever frame that expands in width to add another child seat. This makes it lighter than other side-byside pushchairs. This means it fits through standard doors and is easy to move around on public transport. It is also an jogger which is perfect when you are planning to use it in conjunction with an infant car seat or carrier.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another excellent lightweight side-by-side double. It allows for additional flexibility due to a modular frame. It features a clever design that allows you to turn it into a single buggy or a double with the addition of 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even take twins). It's a great option for growing families and the UPPAbaby is one of the lightest and stylish umbrella strollers around.
If you're looking for a compact, lightweight double, consider the egg2 which folds down to the size of a tiny suitcase. It can be used as a single double by adding 2 carrycots or infant car seats and our home testers loved how simple and sleek it was to use even when stuffed with kids.
Side-by-side lightweight
double pushchairs aren't foolproof however -- if your children are the same age or stage, they might be fighting over who rides in which seat. If they're at different heights it could be that a tandem design might be better for them, as it allows them to face each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models are better suited for siblings with similar ages, tandem lightweight double pushchairs have their own charms. They can be fitted with a larger car seat, and some even have seats that can be reversible or a carrycot that is located in the middle. They are generally more spacious and easy to get in and out of however their baskets tend to be smaller than the ones on single buggies. They often have larger canopy as well as peekaboo windows, and even padded leg cushions.
The iCandy Peach is another example of a great value lightweight tandem. The fabrics are a little less expensive than some of our top-rated doubles. But, it looks great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is awe-inspiring. Although it takes some practice, Kirstie from our Lab called it "genius". The carrycot can't be folded when it is attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is quick and easy.
Tandem lightweight double pushchairs will generally make more precise turns than side-byside models, however, they can be more difficult to drive on uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be slow to speed up and can be heavier to move, which could put strain on your back.
A convertible double buggy is a different option. It's initially one however, you can add adapters to make it double. This can include the option of a second seat or carrycot in front or the kids can be seated side-byside. Some of them also offer the option of incorporating buggy boards, which could help older children keep up with a younger sibling.
The Uppababy Vista V2 can be transformed into a
twin buggy-sized stroller by purchasing additional cocoons at PS59 each. These cocoons provide a flat space for newborns. These can be placed in a row or joined to one another, and you can use them with the baby car seat that comes with the pushchair (as long as you choose a compatible one). These dual-use buggies are made of high-quality materials and can last for many years without showing any wear. This means that they have the highest resale value.
Single-to-Double
For families who love the outdoors and are looking to upgrade from a single stroller, this light double buggy can be converted into a jogger with the help of an innovative kit that includes air-filled tyres, as well as all-wheel suspension. It can also withstand rough terrain well and it's a tandem triple that, is perfect for twins or children of different ages. It's an excellent choice for parents who want a chic design as simple as a single. It comes in various colors of fabric.
This iCandy model is incredibly easy to fold using a single-handed system. And although it's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs in this review, our home tester Karolina said that it still feels very maneuverable - even when she had two toddlers and a carrycot inside.
You can purchase additional items such as the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) which are great for babies. The seats are comfortable for toddlers and come with good headrests and lumbar support. There are numerous options to recline the seats with the front seat adjustable in different positions and the back seat having an option to recline.
The main drawback to this type of buggy is that it tends to be larger overall than the side-by-side doubles, which makes it harder to get through doorways and can be tricky to maneuver up and down kerbs. However, the wheels and suspension are generally able to perform well in handling paved surfaces, and the fact that they're usually significantly lighter than the side-by-sides, means you still find plenty of storage space. It's important to keep in mind that these strollers aren't as good at getting through narrow aisles in supermarkets and aren't able to cope with a lot of shopping. Even though it's easier to turn the stroller around on a narrow curved path, it can be a problem. Some are easier to turn than others, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
The great thing about convertible double pushchairs is the ability to adapt to a family's changing requirements. They often start out as single buggies, but come with adapters to add an additional seat, a carrycot or (in certain instances) a car seat to the frame. Some of them can be converted back to a single as your child gets older and starts to walk or prefers to ride on buggy boards.
One of the most lightweight double strollers on our list, this sleek tri-fold model can carry children up to 40 lbs each. It also has an easy-to-use basket between the seats for storage. The spacious canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and front and back suspensions to ensure smoother rides on rough terrain were praised by the home testers. It also has a convenient cup holder for parents and a large, easy-to access basket. They also noted that the backs of the bags have
small double buggy pockets which are just sufficient to hold phones and a set of keys.
This premium, lightweight side-by-side can be used in more than 20 different configurations, and comes with a second seat and carrycot. Its impressive features include an ergonomic handlebar with a high profile for better steering; front and rear suspension to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing, compact fold that has straps for easy schlepping and seven-inch swivel lock front wheels and 10-inch back wheels with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only downside is that you'll have to purchase a separate baby carrier or car seat.
This multi-functional tandem is a popular choice from our home testers due to its easy-to-maneuver size and impressively large shopping basket that is accessible from both seats facing the parent. It is a breeze to maneuver thanks to its surprisingly low weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs). Many users praise the clever way it connects the second seat or riding board at the back. Parents also admired the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seats from multiple brands. This includes some that are not normally compatible with other double buggies.
